Nature in the Neighborhood: Youth Programs

Children ages 6–11 can participate in a variety of environmental programs taught by naturalists and instructors at recreation centers and parks throughout the city. Explore this season's programs below and click the Search & Register button for dates, times, and locations.

Recreation Fee Assistance: Minneapolis residents who cannot afford instructional fees because of economic need may apply for fee assistance.

Nature in the Neighborhood: CSI - Creature Sign Investigator
How much can you learn about a creature if you never see it? A lot! Go to the scene of the crime and use bones, scat, tracks, fur and more to solve animal mysteries. Participants will go on tracking hikes, make track casts, examine real bones and fur, and create their own scenes for fellow CSIs to solve.

Nature in the Neighborhood: Birds of Prey
See the world from a bird’s eye view as you learn about falcons, owls, hawks, and eagles. Discover how birds of prey use their specialized adaptations to survive in the wild through activities such as dissecting owl pellets, making bird masks, and playing raptor games.

Nature in the Neighborhood: Naturalist Round Up
Enjoy Science and Nature? This program is meant for parks where kids hang out but don't sign-up for classes. Just show up and the park Naturalists will provide fun, hands-on activities and games about Science and Nature. Topics will vary based on the kids’ interest and age.
