Pruning Private Trees

The following considerations apply to the pruning of private trees by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB):

  • Pruning may be required when branches from private trees grow lower than 14 feet and interfere with the public right of way, MPRB property or City property

  • The Forestry Department will request that the property owner provide permission for the pruning

  • The pruning will not take place on private property

  • The Forestry Department shall send notification of the need for pruning to the Division of Regulatory Services for enforcement purposes if the preceding considerations cannot be met
