Snowshoeing
Enjoy the transformed winter landscape while snowshoeing in the parks! Snowshoeing is a great way to exercise and explore the wintertime beauty of Minneapolis parks and is an easy-to-learn activity for all ages. Explore the snow-covered wooded trails of the Off-Road Cycling Area of Theodore Wirth Park, join a naturalist-led trek, or set off on an adventure of your own.
Snowshoes are easily strapped to boots and spread your weight over a larger distance allowing you to stay on top of the snow and ice for easier travel. Today's snowshoes are lightweight aluminum with styles for walking, hiking, and running.
Snowshoeing at Wirth Winter Recreation Area
The Wirth Winter Recreation Area is now closed for the season.
If you're snowshoeing on your own, the Off-Road Cycling area at the Wirth Winter Recreation Area has some of the best trails in town. The 4.36-mile trail twists and climbs its way through a wooded, hilly section of Theodore Wirth Park and is most accessible from the Wirth Par 3 parking lot. Snowshoers may also snowshoe within the Front 9 portion of the Wirth golf course. Snowshoers are advised to be considerate of skiers around them and to stay off all groomed cross-country ski trails within the park.
After a day on the trail, warm up and refuel at the bar and grill inside the Wirth Chalet, which offers sandwiches, hot dogs, soup, snacks, and beverages, plus free wireless Internet.
